Garhwal, Chamoli and Joshimath Tour Overview

This moderate trek is famous for its massive, continuous views of some of India's highest peaks, including Nanda Devi, Kamet, and Dronagiri, and is often done in winter for snow trekking.

Garhwal, Chamoli and Joshimath Tour Itinerary

Day 1
A long but scenic drive through the Garhwal Himalayas, following the Alaknanda River and passing various Prayags (holy river confluences). Arrive at Joshimath, the base town, check into a guesthouse, and spend the evening acclimatizing and preparing for the first day on the trail.
Day 2
A short drive takes us to the road-head at Dhak, where the trek begins with a steady uphill climb through terraced fields and small villages. The trail enters a dense forest of rhododendron and oak, leading to the beautiful Gulling campsite, a relatively sheltered spot for the first night of camping.
Day 3
The trek involves a consistent ascent through beautiful, dense forests. As you climb, the forests open up to reveal stunning views of the Nanda Devi and Dronagiri peaks in the distance. Khullara is a spectacular, high-altitude meadow campsite, situated just below the pass, providing excellent sunset and sunrise views.
Day 4
An early start for the summit day. The trail is mostly flat at first, then a moderate ascent to the Kuari Pass, which means "Doorway." The pass itself offers the legendary panoramic view of the vast Himalayan range. Spend time soaking in the views before descending back to the Khullara campsite.
Day 5
Start with a walk towards the Tali meadow, famous for the small Tali Lake. The trail then takes a sharp, long descent through a mix of meadows and villages, eventually reaching the road near Auli. From the road-head, a short drive transfers you back down to Joshimath for a comfortable guesthouse stay.
Day 6
After breakfast, begin the long downhill drive back to the plains. This journey marks the end of the trek, offering one last opportunity to enjoy the scenic vistas of the confluence towns and the powerful flow of the Ganges River near Rishikesh.
